Missouri corn, soybean development slower than normal

Farmers in Missouri had an average of almost six days available for fieldwork last week. The average temperature was a little cooler than normal and the average precipitation was just over an inch.

72% of topsoil and 73% of subsoil have adequate moisture levels. 19% of topsoil and 22% of subsoil have excessive levels.

97% of corn is silking, 83% is at the dough making stage, and 48% has dented, all slower than average by a few percentage points. 50% of the crop is rated good to excellent.

71% of soybeans are blooming, compared to 88% on average, and 38% are at the pod setting stage, compared to 61% on average. 31% of soybeans are called good to excellent, with 46% rated fair.

The second cutting of alfalfa is at 90% and the third cutting is at 42%, with other hay cut at 91%.

66% of Missouri’s pastures and rangelands are in good to excellent condition.
