Nebraska’s row crops right on schedule

corn-greenwood 7-14The combination of warm conditions with scattered rain facilitated good crop development last week across much of Nebraska.

At week’s end, corn silking stood at 83 percent, slightly ahead of the five-year average. Eleven percent of the crop was in the dough stage.

On soybeans, 77 percent of the crop was blooming and 33 percent was setting pods, both right in line with the five-year averages.

Corn rated 74 percent good to excellent and 20 percent fair, while soybeans were called 72 percent good to excellent and 21 percent fair.

The third cutting of alfalfa stood at 23 percent with the crop rated 67 percent good to excellent. Pasture and range conditions rated 70 percent good to excellent and 22 percent fair.

The winter wheat harvest is in its final stages at 81 percent complete.
