Crops continue to improve in Minnesota this growing season. According to USDA’s latest progress report, the condition rating for both corn and soybeans improved one percent from the previous week.

87 percent of the state’s corn acreage is in good to excellent shape and 80 percent of the beans fall into that category.

Development is ahead of normal with corn silking or beyond four days in front of the five year average and 44 percent of soybeans are setting pods, one week faster than normal.

With oats reaching maturity, 11 percent of the acreage is now harvested with 79 percent rated good to excellent.

93 percent of the barley crop and 92 percent of spring wheat was turning color, well ahead of normal.

Sugar beets jumped four percent in condition rating to 85 percent good to excellent.

And the second cutting of alfalfa hay was 81 percent done for the week ending July 26th, 12 days ahead of last year.
