Weather

A more seasonal pattern for the Heartland

Cool, mostly dry weather will prevail for the next few days in much of the Midwest and Northeast. Farther south, however, 5-day rainfall totals could reach 1 to 3 inches or more from northern Oklahoma into southern Georgia and northern Florida. Late in the week, locally heavy showers will return to portions of the northern Plains and upper Midwest. Building heat across the nation’s mid-section will accompany the showers, while dry weather will persist in much of Texas and Louisiana. Elsewhere, Western showers will generally diminish as the week progresses, except in the southern Rockies.

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for the likelihood of above-normal temperatures across much of the central and eastern U.S., while cooler-than-normal conditions will be limited to Maine and the interior West. Meanwhile, below-normal rainfall in most of the southern and western U.S. will contrast with wetter-than-normal weather across Florida and from the western Corn Belt into the Northeast.
