Dairy farmers to learn about new manure law

dairy cowsOhio’s new manure application law and how it pertains to dairy farms in the Western Lake Erie Basin will be the focus of a series of meetings.

Scott Higgins, CEO of the Ohio Dairy Producers Association (ODPA) says while the law affects all livestock operations, this series of meetings is specific to dairy farmers.

“Throughout the meeting our goal is to enlighten them on the bill, what it takes to comply, what are the opportunities for exemption for medium and small farms of one and two years and how to achieve compliance over that period of time,” Higgins said. “And finally our goal is to introduce them to some technical experts about nutrient management plans.”
