Despite high winds and hail in parts of Minnesota, the state’s corn and soybean acreage is in much better shape than other parts of the country.

According to USDA’s latest Crop Progress Report, corn rated in good to excellent condition, at 81 percent, is 13 points higher than the national average.  Soybeans statewide are 77 percent good to excellent, and 63 percent nationally.

There are also scattered reports in Minnesota of soybeans blooming, while small grain development remains ahead of the five year average.

The first cutting of alfalfa hay advanced to 89 percent complete for the week ending June 28th.
