Thirteen states sue EPA and Corps

Programs iconThirteen states filed suit today against the Environmental Protection Agency and Army Corps of Engineers over the EPA’s Clean Water Rule, formerly known as Waters of the United States. The rule is set to take effect in two months.

The lawsuit was filed in federal court in North Dakota.  Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster, who joined the suit, says the official definition by EPA “extends the agencies’ regulation far beyond what a reasonable person considers to be a waterway.”

Missouri Cattlemen’s Association President Janet Akers praised Koster for joining the fight against what she calls a “pervasive invasion of private property rights.”

Missouri Farm Bureau President Blake Hurst says he’s pleased Missouri’s and other Attorneys General have taken this action, ”Which is a pretty good indication of how upset people are about the rule. There is a great deal of hope out in farm country that he’ll be successful with this court case.”

Other states signing onto the suit besides Missouri and North Dakota are Nebraska and South Dakota; also, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico and Wyoming.
