A wet pattern for much of the Nation

During the next several days, a parade of storms will continue to emerge from the West. As a result, 5-day precipitation totals could reach 1 to 2 inches from Oregon and northern California across the Intermountain West. Meanwhile, totals of 2 to 5 inches or more can be expected across the central and southern Plains and parts of the mid-South. In contrast, little or no rain will fall in the eastern U.S. and across the nation’s northern tier. Most of the country, excluding the Southeast and Northwest, will continue to experience cool weather.

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for the likelihood of above-normal temperatures across the northern and eastern U.S., while cooler-than-normal conditions will cover the central and southern High Plains and the Southwest. Meanwhile, above-normal precipitation nearly nationwide will contrast with drier-than-normal weather along the Pacific Coast and near the Canadian border from Montana to Minnesota.
