This year’s focus for the Michigan Beef Industry Commission is on health and nutrition.

Executive Director George Quackenbush says they’re reaching out to health influencers to help educate them on beef production and nutrition.  “We’re working with dietitians in a couple of different events to engage that audience and help folks understand the importance of beef in a healthy diet, and reach out and give some opportunities to that audience.”

Quackenbush says as part of National Beef Month this May, they are also encouraging consumers to take part in the 30 Day Protein Challenge. He tells Brownfield people interested can visit www.beefitswhatsfordinner.com to sign up and learn more.

Michigan’s beef industry has held steady with an average herd size 1.1 million head of cattle in the state.  Quackenbush says while a dairy state, every stage for beef production is represented throughout Michigan.
