Land stewardship important to Old Mission wineries

All eight wineries located on Old Mission Peninsula north of Traverse City are verified with the Michigan Agriculture and Environmental Assurance Program. Bowers Harbor Vineyard was one of the first. Spencer Stegenga with the vineyard says their proximity to the water, a local park and neighbors encouraged them to follow best management practices.

“Because we live right here on the working farm, we have always had in the back of our mind and practiced land stewardship.”

Stegenga says the vineyard overlooks Bowers Harbor, which is connected to Lake Michigan. He says it was a relatively smooth transition for the verification.
