A wetter pattern ahead for parts of the Plains, Corn Belt

Looking ahead, rain will end later Friday along the Atlantic Seaboard, followed by a period of generally tranquil weather nearly nationwide. Five-day precipitation will total an inch or less, except for some higher amounts in the Northwest. Completely dry conditions will persist from California to the central and southern High Plains. Record-setting warmth will accompany the mostly dry weather from the Pacific Coast to the High Plains, with unusually warm conditions expanding across the remainder of the nation’s mid-section early next week. In contrast, weekend freezes could threaten blooming fruit trees and other sensitive vegetation across the Southeast, stretching as far south as northern sections of Alabama and Georgia.

The 6- to 10-day outlook calls for near- to below-normal temperatures across the northern U.S., while warmer-than-normal conditions will stretch from California into the Southeast, including the central and southern Plains. Meanwhile, below-normal precipitation across Florida’s peninsula and from California and Oregon to the southern half of the High Plains will contrast with wetter-than-normal weather in the northern Plains, Midwest, Northeast, and interior Southeast.
