A wish like no other

DalaneyISF

For Dalaney Vickrey it’s the opportunity of a lifetime.  “I’m going to Houston, Texas for a stock and rodeo show,” she says.  “It will be a whole week and I’m going to go down to judge one day and be there for the rest.”

At a very young age, Dalaney was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis.  A genetic condition that affects the cells that produce mucus and sweat.

While there isn’t a cure for CF, there are treatments to control the disease.  “I do a therapy twice a day that vibrates my chest to get the thick mucus out or break it up so I can cough it up,” she says.

So why the Houston Livestock Show for this teenager?  “I chose this because it kind of relates to going to judge (4-H) and helping me judge in the future,” she says.  “And because I’ll get to meet new people.”

Vickrey says she’s pretty excited for the opportunity.  “I’ll definitely remember it,” she says.  “And probably never do anything else better.”

In addition to judging the barrow show, she’ll also take part in the parade on Wednesday.
