A mild pattern on the Plains to continue

During the next several days, flood concerns will continue from the central Gulf Coast northward into the Ohio Valley. Five-day rainfall totals could reach 2 to 4 inches, with locally higher amounts, in a broad area centered across the interior Southeast. Some of the flood-prone areas, including the Tennessee Valley, already experienced varying degrees of flooding earlier this month. Meanwhile, tranquil weather will prevail in most other parts of the country through the end of the week. Warm, mostly dry weather will cover the northern and central Plains and the Desert Southwest, while only light precipitation can be expected in northern California, the Rockies, and the Northwest. Cool weather will linger in parts of the East, leading to the likelihood of a cold rain event toward week’s end.

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for warmer-than-normal weather in southern Florida and from the Pacific Coast into the mid-South and Midwest, while near- to below-normal temperatures will be mostly confined to the Gulf and Atlantic Coast States. Meanwhile, wetter-than-normal weather across the interior West and portions of the southern Atlantic region will contrast with below-normal precipitation in southern California and from the Plains to the Appalachians.
