Midday cash livestock prices

Cattle country is typically quiet on Tuesday with bids and asking prices not fully defined. A few showlists have been priced around 162.00 to 163.00 in the South, and 260.00 plus in the North. Significant trade volume could be delayed until the second half of the week.

Boxed beef cutout values were up 1.03 at 249.70 on choice in the morning report, but select was down .47 at 244.98.

Oklahoma National Stockyards on Monday had actual receipts of feeder cattle at just 1,211 head. Feeder steers and heifers were too lightly tested for a market trend. Receipts were light due to a cold front bringing ice into the state late last week into the weekend. Quality was mostly plain, with most cattle being full and fleshy. Feeder steers, medium and large 1 averaging 862 pounds averaged 188.79 per hundredweight. 770 pound heifers averaged 181.75.

Barrows and gilts in the Iowa/Minnesota direct trade are .79 lower with a weighted average of 65.42 on a carcass basis, the West is down .64 at 65.42, and the East is not reported due to confidentiality. Hogs in the national report are .06 lower at 64.18. Missouri direct base carcass meat price is a 1.00 lower to 2.00 higher from 57.00 to 63.00. Midwest hogs on a live basis are steady to 2.00 higher from 40.00 to 50.00.

The pork carcass cutout value is .77 lower FOB plant at 68.90.

Barrow and gilt carcass weights for the week ending February 14 averaged 212 pounds, one pound lighter than the previous week and a pound heavier than year-ago. Weights are expected to move sideways to slightly lower through most of March.
