Young farmer says RFS helped him return to farm

ethanol plant-central cityA young farmer from central Nebraska credits the Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS) for helping him return to the farm just over two years ago.

Twenty-nine year old Tim Davis of Wood River farms with his father and uncle. He says the increased demand and higher prices for corn, driven by the growth of the ethanol industry, has created more opportunities for young people in agriculture.

“It gives young people an opportunity to return to small town America,” Davis says. “It definitely gives us a market for our corn and also the corn by-products. Nebraska is leading the nation in cattle feeding and a lot of that is a direct result of the RFS.”

The importance of maintaining the RFS is one of the messages Davis is communicating this week to lawmakers and regulators in the nation’s capital. He’s participating in the Nebraska Corn Growers Association’s annual leadership trip to Washington, D.C.
