Grassley calls for RFS action

grassley-chuckIowa Senator Chuck Grassley is among a group of 32 senators calling on the EPA to set production levels under the Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS).

“The EPA has been dragging its feet on determining the renewable volume requirements for biodiesel and ethanol,” Grassley says. “It’s been well over a year since they should have been issued and this inaction is hurting the renewable fuels industry.”

Grassley says the uncertainty caused by EPA’s inaction has been especially harmful to the biodiesel industry, which he says has experienced layoffs and plant closures.

According to law, volume requirements under the RFS were supposed to be set already for 2014 as well as 2015 and 2016. According to watchdog.org, industry insiders suspect EPA officials are working out the details for the ethanol mandate in the Renewable Fuel Standard, but say there’s no reason why the biodiesel portion of the RFS shouldn’t be approved immediately.
