Vilsack: Make farm bill choices known

Farm Bill ARC PLC photo_EDITAg Secretary Tom Vilsack wants growers to let their choices be known now if they’ve decided between the Farm Bill’s ARC or PLC program. Vilsack said on a conference call with reporters earlier this week, “We’re encouraging folks who’ve made decisions to let their local FSA office know what that decision is so we don’t have a crash of interest at the end of March that may impact and affect our ability to process these things on a timely basis.”

Growers have until March 31st to decide between those programs which will be locked in for the life of the Farm Bill.  Vilsack says if they sign up now but change their minds later, they can do so before the deadline.

About 75 to 80-thousand producers have signed up so far. Vilsack encourages farmers to use the many tools to help make their choice, including the USDA’s website tool.
