More seasonal temperatures ahead for the Heartland

During the next several days, a generally quiet weather pattern will prevail across much of the country.  Exceptions will include a band of light snow on January through Wednesday, stretching from the northern Plains into the northern Mid-Atlantic States; heavy snow across southern portions of the Rockies and High Plains, mainly on Wednesday; and late-week rain (locally 1 to 3 inches) across the South. However, little or no precipitation will occur during the next 5 days in California, the Great Basin, and from the central Plains into the lower Ohio Valley. Mild weather will prevail in most areas, except for below-normal temperatures in conjunction with the storm crossing the southern U.S.

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for the likelihood of above-normal temperatures from the Pacific Coast to the Plains, while colder-than-normal conditions will dominate the eastern U.S. Meanwhile, below-normal precipitation from the Pacific Coast into the Southeast will contrast with wetter-than-normal weather from the northern Plains into the Northeast.
