No labels for mechanically tenderized beef

Programs ICONDespite a push from some lawmakers at the end of 2014, the USDA’s final rule for labeling mechanically tenderized beef was not advanced by the Office of Management and Budget.  Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut urged the OMB to release the labeling rule, saying those products are not adequately labeled for consumers to understand additional safety risks when compared to whole cuts of beef.

It’ll be another three years before such labels are required, according to the next deadline set by the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).
