Group against hog operation appeals
A group fighting the establishment of a 10-thousand head hog farm in central Missouri has filed an appeal. The Missouri Department of Natural Resources granted an operating permit to Callaway Farrowing LLC in November.
The Friends of Responsible Agriculture (FORAG) has outlined concerns in its appeal to the Missouri Administrative Hearing Commission about health and welfare and technical deficiencies and the “interim guidance” it says is not suitable for the granting of a final permit.
FORAG president Jeff Jones says the CAFO is too close to populated areas and presents a number of health risks to people living in that area and environmental risks to the land.
The hog operation would be in Kingdom City, Missouri, along Interstate 70.
