Weather
Weather remains unsettled across the eastern Corn Belt
Across the Corn Belt, mostly dry weather prevails, although mostly cloudy conditions and damp fields are hampering corn harvest efforts in the Great Lakes region.
On the Plains, dry weather continues. Unusually warm conditions dominate the High Plains, where Tuesday’s high temperatures could reach 60° as far north as central Montana. The warmth has melted nearly all of winter wheat’s protective snow cover across the northern Plains.
In the South, generally cool, dry weather prevails, except for some lingering showers in the southern Mid- Atlantic region. Late-season fieldwork includes winter wheat planting and soybean harvesting.
In the West, precipitation is confined to the Pacific Northwest. Across the remainder of the region, warm, dry weather is promoting late-autumn fieldwork. In Arizona, the cotton harvest was 80% complete on December 7.
