Christie vetoes gestation stall bill

Al Kelly Jonathan Tisch Woody Johnson Brandon Moore Marla Smith Commissioner GoodellNew Jersey governor Chris Christie has vetoed the bill that would have banned gestation crates in his state.

Even though pork production is virtually nonexistent in New Jersey, the bill drew nationwide attention as animal rights activists and celebrities pressured Christie to sign the bill.

In a statement, Christie said the bill is a “solution in search of a problem” and a “political movement masquerading as substantive policy.” Christie said it is a decision that should be left to the state’s board of agriculture.
