Farm groups ask the President to intervene on RFS

Green Plains Renewable Energy

Several farm groups have sent a letter to President Obama asking him, “to intervene with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency regarding its proposed cuts in the 2014 volume obligations for the Renewable Fuel Standard.”

The letter states that when the RFS was established in 2005 it spurred American agriculture to build and expand feedstocks and deliver renewable fuels to the country.

The groups tell the President the blending targets and methodology in his proposed rule “are already causing significant harm to the biofuels sector.”  They contend since the announcement of the EPA’s proposal, “investments are now moving overseas.”

The letter concludes, “This is a decision we cannot afford in America’s heartland.  We urge you to ensure that EPA modifies this damaging rule.”

Sending the letter: The National Corn Growers Association; National Association of Wheat Growers; National Sorghum Producers; American Farm Bureau: National Farmers Union; Association of Equipment Manufacturers and the Agricultural Retailers Association.
