Yield history updated, base acres reallocated beginning Monday

Beginning Monday, farm owners are able visit Farm Service Agency offices if they want to update their yield history or reallocate base acres.  Most farm owners and producers received letters this summer to help them analyze crop planting history in order to decide whether to keep their base acres or reallocate them according to recent plantings.  Base acres can’t be increased.

There are online tools that help land owners determine what might be best for them, according to Tom Vilsack, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture.

“You may or may not from reallocating your base acres,” Vilsack told Brownfield Ag News, during an interview on Friday, “and may or may not benefit from adjusting yields.”

From November 17 through at least March 31, producers can elect whether to use Agriculture Risk Coverage or Price Loss Coverage.  Those choices remain in effect for the 2014 through 2018 crop years.
