Iowa’s crops get welcome push from Mother Nature

The recent run of above-normal temperatures has helped push Iowa’s crops closer to maturity.

As of Sunday, 58 percent of the state’s corn crop is mature.  That’s still eight days behind normal, but a good improvement over last week.  Corn harvest has begun in some parts of the state with 76 percent of the acreage reported in good to excellent condition.

Sixty-five percent of Iowa’s soybean acreage was dropping leaves, still three days behind normal. Soybean harvest was also underway and 74 percent of the acreage was in good to excellent condition.

The third cutting of alfalfa was 91 percent complete.  Pasture condition rated 67 percent good to excellent.
