Making sure the Farm Bill is working

As Farm Bill program details are rolled out and details become clearer, Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown wants to know what’s working and what’s not.

Brown, a member of the Senator Agriculture Committee understands tweaks may be needed.

“Any time you do something as major as a multi-billion dollar Farm Bill you will still need to go back in a year or two and look at, is this working,” said Brown. “And figuring what do you do five years from now, and as a member of the committee we’re always kind of looking to the next one too, because that’s important.”

The Senator also tells Brownfield it would better serve the rest of the Federal government to follow agriculture’s lead and put other long term programs in place.

“And we should be doing that for a transportation bill, we’ve got to figure out how to fund transportation, you know it’s all about getting products to market and we don’t do it as well as we used to in this country,” the Senator said. “That’s because we don’t have a longer term transportation planning bill the way we do longer planning in agriculture.”
