Allendale expects tighter hog inventory

USDA’s much anticipated quarterly hogs and pigs report is out this upcoming Friday.

Allendale Inc. expects the numbers to reflect the impact of PEDv on the U.S. herd, but also anticipates signals that the industry is rebuilding. All hogs and pigs as of June 1 and the market inventory are both expected to be down around 2% on the year, at 98.2% and 97.8%, respectively, but the breeding herd is expected to be up about 2% at 102.2%. Spring farrowings, and summer and fall farrowing intentions are also expected to up from last year.

The report is out Friday at 3 PM Eastern/2 PM Central.
