Senate Comm. confirms Vetter for USTR position

The Senate Finance Committee has confirmed Darci Vetter as Chief Agricultural Negotiator in the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR).

In her role at USTR, the former Deputy Under Secretary for Farm and Foreign Agricultural Services at USDA would be responsible for the success of partnerships between U.S. agriculture and foreign customers.

The American Soybean Association (ASA) has worked with Vetter in the past and ASA President Ray Gaesser of Iowa says having her at USTR will benefit the soy industry.

“As we work to remove trade barriers worldwide as well as negotiate the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) with Europe and on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) with Pacific Rim countries, Ms. Vetter’s knowledge and experience, not only of international trade but also the specific needs of our industry, are extremely powerful assets,” said Gaesser.

Vetter’s confirmation now goes to the full Senate.
