The time is now for farmers to comment

There’s just a few weeks left for farmers to submit comments on the Environmental Protection Agency’s proposed cuts to the Renewable Fuels Standard.

The Indiana Corn Growers Association and the Indiana Soybean Alliance are making it easy for farmers to just that at the Fort Wayne Farm Show this week.  “We’re going to take advantage of being at one of the larger farm shows in the area,” communications director Megan Kuhn says.  “We’re asking farmers to stop by our booth, booths 30 and 31, to submit comments.  We think it’s a great opportunity to talk to farmers face-to-face on why it’s important.  We’ve made it really easy for them to stop in and be able to make a comment.”

She says the proposed cut in the annual target for the RFS could carve out a huge section of demand for Indiana’s corn and soybean farmers.

Indiana produces roughly 1.2 billion gallons of corn-based ethanol a year.  “A cut of about 1.4 billion gallons (of ethanol from the RFS) is kind of like cutting out Indiana’s ethanol production,” Kuhn says.  “That’s really worrisome for the corn and soybean farmers that have produced record crops this year.”

You can find the Indiana Corn Growers Association and Indiana Soybean Alliance at booths 30 and 31 at the Fort Wayne Farm Show this Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
