Blunt says short-term extension not needed

While the U.S. House today reportedly passed an extension of the 2008 Farm Bill, Missouri Senator Roy Blunt says it makes better sense to NOT pass an extension.

“I am of the view that we are better off not to have a short extension of a Farm Bill and put maximum pressure on the Congress in January to do a long-term Farm Bill.”   Blunt says the dairy industry would not be harmed, “It appears to me there is no real impact for three or four weeks after the Farm Bill expires. The dairy impact that people thought would be a dairy impact January 1 looks like that it would not be an impact be until near the end of January or the start of February.”  Blunt told reporters this morning that even if the House passes an extension, the Senate will not.
