Harvested area is seen at 87.232 million acres, compared to 87.375 million last year. Planted acreage was 95.3 million acres, 2% less than the prior update. USDA anticipates a record number of ears per acre in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin, in addition to record yields in 18 states.

Soybeans are estimated at 3.258 billion bushels, 3% above September, with an average yield of 43.0 bushels per acre, compared to 39.8 a year ago. The average pre-report projection was 3.225 billion bushels with an average yield of 42.5 bushels per acre. Harvested area for soybeans is pegged at 75.688 million acres, compared to 76.164 million in 2012. Planted acreage was 76.5 million acres, 1% less than the previous guess. USDA expects year to year increases in pod counts for Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Ohio, and South Dakota, with record yields in Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee.
