Iowa’s ag secretary seeks another term

Iowa secretary of agriculture Bill Northey intends to seek a third term in that office.

Northey made the announcement Saturday at his annual fundraiser in Des Moines, saying he would seek reelection to the state’s top ag position in 2014.  Northey was first elected to the post in 2006.

Earlier this year, Northey considered making a run for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Tom Harkin.  But he announced in May that he would not seek that office, citing his preference to remain in his current role.
