Extension on federal filing date for farmers

Farmers and fisherman who choose not to make quarterly estimated tax payments are generally subject to a penalty if they fail to file their returns and pay the full amount due by March 1.  This year – because of the changes to the tax system from the American Taxpayer Relief Act (ATRA) the IRS is delayed in starting tax return filing.

Luis Garcia, IRS spokesperson says because of that delay – the IRS has extended the filing date for farmers and fishermen.  “We are pushing back the deadline from March 1st to April 15th,” he says.  “So they will not be subject to any penalty if they pay any taxes due by April 15th of this year.”

But, Garcia tells Brownfield form 2210-F has to be filed with the return and they have to request that penalty waiver.

For questions about the waiver – Garcia says to visit www.irs.gov and search 2210-F.
