Ohio State University names new dean

Bruce McPheron, dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences at Penn State has been named vice president for agricultural administration and dean of the College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the Ohio State University.

Taking over for Bobby Moser, who announced his retirement this past September, McPheron is no stranger to Ohio or Ohio State. Originally from Hardin County, McPheron began his career as a 4-H Extension educator in the early ‘80s, before moving to Penn State in 1988. Before being named dean in 2009, McPheron served is several leadership positions including director of the Pennsylvania Agricultural Experiment Station.

“Dr. McPheron is an Ohioan by birth, an Ohio State alumnus, and spent three years working as a county Extension educator in the state,” said Ohio State President E. Gordon Gee. “He brings a global view and worldwide experience back to Ohio to lead one of Ohio State’s most important educational programs. I am delighted that we have been fortunate enough to attract him back home.”

McPheron will begin his new appointment on November 1, subject to approval by the Board of Trustees.
