HSUS ad campaign targets NPPC

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) has launched a new ad campaign targeting the pork industry and the use of gestation stalls.

HSUS CEO Wayne Pacelle announced the campaign in a recent blog.  Pacelle said the campaign “exposes the pork industry for being in the backwater of animal welfare.”

An ad developed by HSUS focuses on a recent comment about gestation stalls made by an employee of the National Pork Producers Council (NPPC).  In a July 24th article on the National Journal web site, the NPPC employee questioned whether sows really care if they can turn around or not.

That comment prompted NPPC CEO Neil Dierks to issue a statement saying that the comments were inappropriate and “do not represent the views of our organization nor do they reflect the values of the hardworking American farmers who produce safe and nutritious pork for consumers around the world.”

In his blog, Pacelle did not specify when or where the HSUS ads will appear.

  • I hope the H$U$ is arrogant enough to put something up that is legally actionable by the hog industry. I find the actions of the H$U$ disgusting, immoral, and sociopathic. The more successes they have, the more strident and *careless* Pacelle becomes, as he feels he is now untouchable and beyond the law.

  • Marcy you are wo right. What goes up must always come down. He will get his in the end. Too many people have his number now. The media needs to quit falling into the same pile of crap. Without our farmers and their expertise on raising animals and what comes from the grou
    nd, we will all perish.

  • Pacelle has always behaved as someone who is above the law. The increasing vitriol and carelessness are due to his many recent FAILURES, not successes. Pacelle is especially enraged about the HSUS-UEP rotten egg bill debacle. The enormous backlash against HSUS from many segments of the animal protection community is also difficult for Pacelle to spin. They can’t all be jealous of HSUS and it’s “handsome” gold digger in chief.
