Senate leaders praise farm bill progress

The progress on the Senate Farm bill elicited praise all around the Senate Floor this morning.

Speaker Harry Reid said it’s one of the “good things” happening in the Senate lately.

“We have this farm bill, five year farm bill; very difficult. But it is now near passing which is really good for the country,” Reid said in his opening speech on the Senate floor.

Republican leader Mitch McConnell praised senators, Speaker Reid and the ag committee leaders, “The way Senator Roberts and Senator Stabenow have handled the farm bill has been exemplary. Members on both sides have gotten opportunities to offer amendments,” said Reid, “We’ve had a lot of votes but it’s an important bill.”

Votes on remaining amendments are being taken this morning and a vote on the entire Farm Bill is set for this afternoon.
