Organic milk sales above last year

Dairy Market News reports organic milk product sales totaled 167 million pounds in July, up 10.7 percent compared to July of 2010. Organic fat-reduced milk sales totaled 126 million pounds in July, up 9.8 percent compared to July of 2010. Organic whole milk sales were 41 million pounds up 13.7 percent compared to a year ago. For the calendar year, organic milk sales are running 22.2 percent above the same period last year.

Cooperatives Working Together (CWT) has accepted 12 requests for export assistance from Darigold, Dairy Farmers of America and United Dairymen of Arizona to sell 6.781 million pounds of Cheddar cheese and Monterey Jack cheese to customers in Asia, North Africa and the Middle East. The product will be delivered October 2011 through March 2012.

In 2011, CWT has assisted members in making export sales of 72.3 million pounds of cheese to 20 countries on four continents. Sales totaling 444 metric tons were cancelled in September.
