Crop insurance discussed at Farm Science Review

Farmers stopping by the Farm Credit Services of Mid-America exhibit at Ohio Farm Science Review were reminded of a couple of deadlines that are quickly approaching. Kirk Scott, Crop Insurance Specialist with Farm Credit Services of Mid-America told Brownfield that farmers wishing to sign up for crop insurance for their wheat crop need to do so by September 30, 2011.

USDA’s Supplemental Revenue Assistance Program (SURE) also expires on September 30, 2011. At this point it is unclear whether the SURE program will be available in 2012.

Scott said with the current level of volatility in the market, higher input costs and higher rent and land prices, managing risk is more important than ever.
