Prevented planting lowers corn stocks

Last week’s USDA production and ending stocks estimates reflected the challenges of the planting season. Because wet ground will result in so many acres not seeing a planter this season, the 2011-2012 corn ending stocks were lowered by the agency. Darren Frye, a market analyst with Water Street Solutions, told Brownfield’s John Perkins that USDA’s corn planted acreage reduction of 1.5 million acres led to a significant cut in estimated ending stocks. On the other hand, the report held little surprise where wheat and soybean numbers are concerned.
