Is Nebraska next on HSUS’ hit list?

HSUS president and CEO Wayne Pacelle won’t say as much, but his upcoming visit to the state is fueling speculation.  David Martosko, editor-in-chief of HumaneWatch.org, a web site that closely monitors HSUS’ activities, sees Pacelle’s visit as a possible first step towards a Nebraska ballot initiative in 2012.

“I think it’s very likely that he’s coming to town to try to build some sort of a grassroots base,” Martosko says, “because eventually, if he’s going to put an initiative on the ballot in 2012 in Nebraska, he’s going to need people—you know, peasants with pitchforks—to carry the clipboards around and collect signatures.  And meetings like this tend to be where those lists are built.”

Martosko compares the situation in Nebraska to that of Missouri, where an initiative regulating dog breeders was defeated in 103 of the state’s 114 counties, but still passed with 51 percent of the vote. “They took it to the urban audiences and got Kansas City and St. Louis to carry them over the top,” he says. “I imagine they’ve made a similar calculation about some of the city dwellers in Nebraska and how they could leverage them to overrule the wishes of the rural farmers.”

To this point, HSUS has focused most of its efforts on the egg and swine industries.  Nebraska is mainly a cattle state.  So why would HSUS be so interested in the Cornhusker state?

“Every state that they get their law in the books is one more precedent they can use to get their eventual goal, which is a federal law to outlaw cages for egg-laying hens and gestation crates for sows,” says Martosko. “So they may very well be banking on the idea that the cattlemen of Nebraska won’t rush to the aid of the relatively fewer pig farmers and egg producers.”

Pacelle will speak at an HSUS town hall meeting in Lincoln this Sunday evening.

  • What Humane Watch is not saying is that HSUS and other animal rights activist, including PETA and ALF, Neogoation is Over and everything in between goal is the abolition of animals. It is not a secret if one has read anything on the vegan animal rights movement and what it is based on. It has come a long way from animal welfare to knocking on doors taking animals and everyone who is a vegan animal rights follower, believeing that HSUS is concerned with abuse of animals, has that 800 number by the side of the phone ready to make a report of abuse. He has trained well, those who have no idea what animal husbandry is or an old horse looks like or that the owner of 6 dogs is not a criminal and whereby the idealogy is an animal is crated for safety, or contained in a zoo, is cruelty. The animal rights activist idealogy if animals are not sitting on a pillow watching TV all day must be abused. HSUS along with PETA has bent the mind of children with their “comic books” Mommie is a Murderer and your Daddy is a Killer and the schools that we pay tax for our children to attend are allowing this brainwashing to enter, even they do not realize it is a social movement. If I had seen one of those comics when I was 9 I could never chunk down another bite of Bambi roast or purchase another egg that was not raised in a hen house with a TV for their entertainment or allowed to wander outside where they could be pecked to death as they are carniverous little devils. The fact is that animals are raised humanely, but the last 15 minutes is always shown by HSUS depecting the life of the animals. Remember how hard HSUS worked in New Jersey to stop bear hunting? Here is a list of those killed by black bears! Thanks Wayne for trying to stop the hunt in N.J. for bear and these people list would not thank you. They can not speak because they have no voice on this earth, so I am speaking for them. Wayne is still putting the black bear first Is it worth it to try for the utopian society where animals and people share the earth reverting back to the pantheist religion, where one will surely find, that MOTHER NATURE IS VERY CRUEL and utopian societies have been tried before and failed. Remember Hitler, Stalin and Linnin? What is the human cost of the vegan animal rights movement. Name, Age at Death, Gender

  • I hope the people of NE hang on to your agricultural roots and realize that the HSUS has a goal of total vegan. Remember where your food comes from…………..it’s not all plants.

  • yep Pam- and the host also invited Mr Martosko and anyone else who wanted to participate. on a public list.
on the evening of the event though, armed guards were present with a list of DO NOT ADMIT names, even though folks had rsvp’d. and had traveled at considerable expense to an event to which they had been INVITED.
the hotel will confirm that they were told anyone with an rsvp would be admitted but then HSUS changed it hours before the event.
Mr Fulton himself stood at the door and told people YOU AIN’T GETTIN IN.

    liar liar pants on fire.

birds of a feather, and all that I guess.

  • Pam- You stated tha Wayne was invited and David “twists the truth” – so how do you explain that Kevin Fulton went to HumaneWatch on Facebook and told everyone that we were ALL welcome to attend. David sent in a RSVP that he would be attending…got a response from HSUS accepting his RSVP. But yet, when he tried to enter the meeting there were armed security guards that refused him entry. Kevin Fulton, himself, also came to the door and refused him entry. So what was supposably an “open” meeting that those on Humanewatch’s facebook page were all invited to attend – turned out being a meeting that David was banned from. IF HSUS and Wayne don’t have any hidden agenda then maybe David wouldn’t have been shut out at the door! The only truth twisting appears to be coming from HSUS’s end of things……

  • Thing is Pam all we have is your word. Over on HumaneWatch we’ve got screen shots of Kevin’s invite and a copy of David’s RSVP receipt, made under his own name. As usual, Pam twists the truth.

  • The only ‘hit list’ comes from you folks.

You evil geniuses spreading illucid rumors ‘the end of all agriculture’, ‘enforced national vegetarianism’ ‘the elimination of all animals’ .. unfathomable nonsense WHICH YOU DO NOT BELIEVE FOR ONE MINUTE- aimed at frightening the small farmer.

And you have made a very good job of it…how proud you must be…

It was as easy as a canned hunt.

Create a scapegoat and divert the blame away from the REAL problem facing the small rural
    farmer…
    You.
Your monolithic corporate mega-‘farms’ have been steamrolling the independent rural agriculturist ever since you and your Wall Street/Government cabal realized you could get away with it.

Assisted by bought&sold greedy elected officials powerful enough to suppress their role in your under-the-table deep-pocket lobby- largesse….

Desperate for advice and support and protection from leaders whom they could trust, the small hardworking unworldly rural agriculturist- WITHOUT WHOM THIS COUNTRY WOULD NOT EXIST- got Big Daddy instead.

My greatest hope is that when the time comes, you corporate Kahunas will find yourselves explaining to my born-lived-farmed-church twice a week- died in Piggott Arkansas grandparents why folks like them became collateral damage in your multinational profit-at-any-cost shark-feed agenda.

    Don’t be TOO sure it won’t happen…..
