Let’s not rekindle “Food vs Fuel”

In a pre-emptive strike, ethanol supporters are reassuring people that there is no reason to reignite the “food-versus-fuel” debate. The American Coalition for Ethanol, Growth Energy, Renewable Fuels Association and National Corn Growers issued a joint statement noting “Global coarse grain supplies are nearly unchanged, the USDA reports with lower U.S. supplies offset by increased foreign coarse grain production.” They also point out that as of October 3rd, 37 percent of the U.S. corn crop was harvested and much of that was in the areas most affected by adverse weather so; “There is potential for an upward adjustment in the overall production number as the harvest is completed.”

The groups contend “America’s investment in renewable ethanol has paid dividends,” while saving the economy billions of dollars in foreign oil expense.
