Beef Pit at NE State Fair has good opening weekend

The opening weekend of the Nebraska State Fair drew nearly 20 percent more people than last year.  And at the Nebraska Beef Pit, the eatery run by the Nebraska Cattlemen’s Association, numbers were up nearly 25 percent.

Beef Pit volunteer and cattle feeder Joel Bruns of Pender, Nebraska says it’s a great opportunity to promote the goodness of Nebraska beef. “Our primary focus of the Beef Pit is to go out and promote our product,” he says. “We want to bring people in-maybe that are from the city or those areas-we just want them to have a good experience, having a sandwich, and just promote our product.”

This is the fifth year that Bruns and his wife have served as pit bosses in the Nebraska Beef Pit.  The Beef Pit has been a fixture at the State Fair for 26 years and Bruns says it will move, with the rest of the State Fair, to Grand Island in 2010.
