Tom Steever and Addie GirardAn aspiring veterinary technician has seen significant growth to her college fund, thanks to a famous redhead. At the Illinois State Fair Sale of Champions Tuesday evening , fully regaled Ronald McDonald was coaxed by Illinois Governor Pat Quinn to successfully bid on Apollo, the crossbred steer shown by Joliet Junior College student Addie Girard.Despite the $30,100 purchase price by the McDonald’s Corporation, the young lady was overcome with emotion at removing Apollo’s lead halter for the final time.

“It’s just really, really tough because getting that bond with him, he trusts me and I somewhat trust him,” says Girard, after pictures are snapped one more time with Apollo surrounded by all manner of family and dignitaries who temporarily unnerve the glittered black steer. “We have our moments, but [selling Apollo is] just really, really hard.”
