Yet another major, high-impact spring storm sweeps the Heartland and beyond

Later Tuesday, a host of weather hazards will affect the country, ranging from ongoing blizzard conditions in the north-central U.S. to blowing dust and potential wildfires on the central and southern Plains.

In addition, severe thunderstorms in the Mississippi Valley and environs could result in wind damage, large hail, and isolated tornadoes.  The geographic region targeted by Tuesday’s severe weather will be nearly identical to the area struck by the March 31 tornado outbreak.

By mid-week, the storm system responsible for the adverse weather will drift into the upper Great Lakes region and begin to weaken, although thunderstorms will linger in the South.

In fact, 5-day rainfall totals could reach 2 to 6 inches in the western Gulf Coast region.  Elsewhere, a new Pacific storm system will affect northern California and the Northwest, with dry weather expected the next 5 days from southern California to the southern half of the High Plains.
