Weather

Unseasonably chilly pattern to moderate…somewhat

Cool conditions will persist nearly nationwide for the remainder of the week. In fact, consistently warmer-than-normal conditions should be limited to northern California, the Pacific Northwest, and Florida’s peninsula. As the week progresses, frost and light freezes may occur—especially on Thursday morning—as far south as northern sections of Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi, as well as parts of the Carolinas.

Meanwhile, a storm system arriving from western Canada will deliver significant snow during the next 2 days across the northern and central Rockies and adjacent High Plains. On Thursday and Friday, precipitation will quickly spread eastward across the central Plains, lower Midwest, Ohio Valley, and mid-Atlantic. Snow may accumulate along an axis from Nebraska to northern Pennsylvania.

Elsewhere, significant precipitation should be limited to the Deep South, where late-week rainfall may total 1 to 2 inches or more.

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10- day outlook calls for the likelihood of near-or below-normal temperatures from the Midwest into the Northeast, while warmer-than-normal weather will prevail across the Plains, West, and Deep South.

Meanwhile, near- or above-normal precipitation will dominate the country; drier-than-normal conditions should be limited to parts of the north-central U.S.
