Much cooler days ahead for the Heartland; a wetter pattern continues

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for the likelihood of above-normal temperatures in northern New England, the Northwest, and the nation’s southern tier, while cooler-than-normal conditions will cover the Midwest, Ohio Valley, and northern half of the Plains. 

Meanwhile, below-normal precipitation from the Southwest into the Rio Grande Valley should contrast with near- or above-normal rainfall across the remainder of the country.
