Much colder air ahead, largely centered across the Corn Belt

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for the likelihood of cooler-than-normal weather along and east of the Mississippi River Valley to contrast with near- to above-normal temperatures from the Plains to the Pacific Coast.

Above-normal rainfall is expected across the lower Four Corners and southern High Plains, with a less pronounced area of wetter-than-normal weather noted in the Northeast.  Conversely, drier-than-normal conditions will persist from the central and northern Pacific Coast into the central Corn Belt.
