More rain ahead for much of the Corn Belt

Scattered showers will dot the central and eastern U.S. during the next several days.

The most organized rainfall will affect the Southeast, where 5-day totals could reach 1 to 2 inches, except for locally higher amounts across Florida’s peninsula. Meanwhile, spotty 1- to 2-inch totals may also occur across the Plains and upper Midwest. Farther west, little or no rain will fall into early next week from the Pacific Coast to the Rockies.

Cooler air will gradually overspread the Far West, while heat will shift eastward toward the nation’s mid-section, including the High Plains. Below-normal temperatures will linger for a few more days, however, across the mid-South and Midwest.

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for the likelihood of near- or below-normal temperatures in California, the Great Basin, and the Northwest, while hotter-than-normal weather will cover the remainder of the country.

Meanwhile, below-normal rainfall in southern Florida and from the Four Corners States to the central and southern Plains should contrast with wetter-than-normal weather across much of the eastern half of the U.S. and parts of the Northwest.
