A wetter pattern ahead for the Heartland; more intense heat on the far southern Plains

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for the likelihood of near- or above-normal temperatures nationwide, except for cooler-than-normal conditions in Wyoming and environs, and from the lower Great Lakes region into the middle Atlantic States.  Notably, scorching heat is likely to persist in the south-central U.S.

Meanwhile, near- or above-normal rainfall across most of the country should contrast with drier-than-normal weather in the Pacific Northwest and across the South, from the Four Corners region to parts of Florida.
