Milder to warmer days ahead across the Heartland, rain on the Plains by late next week

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for the likelihood of above-normal temperatures throughout the central and eastern U.S., while cooler-than-normal conditions will cover California, the Great Basin, and the Northwest.

Meanwhile, near- or below-normal precipitation in the Far West and from the middle and lower Mississippi Valley into the Northeast should contrast with wetter-than-normal weather in the southern Atlantic region, as well as the Rockies, Plains, and far upper Midwest.
